What we're all about

It has been a while since we at A Tiny Home for Good have checked in.

Lets talk progress… Since last checking in, we’ve wrapped up four brand new units and find ourselves a month away from opening our doors to an additional three homes. Below are some photos with little write-ups on each.

In November we opened the doors to two units on Syracuse’s Southside. It was a big change from our earlier homes as we bumped up the square footage, added in-unit washer/dryer, and went all out on the kitchen.

Our subcontractors, staff, and volunteers showed serious resolve charging through the winter to wrap up our two unit build on Syracuse’s westside. Our project manger, Jules, knocked the tile work out of the park on these guys. Happily opened the doors to what may be our sharpest units to-date in late February.

The beauty of starting a project at the beginning of winter, is that the warm weather bump comes in right about when you’re getting sick of showing up to same job site everyday. Our three unit project on Syracuse’s northside is absolutley that! Site work, foundation, framing, roofing, rough-in, and most siding happened well below freezing. These last few days, we’ve been absolutely charging, fueled by the sun and the mid-50s! These three units will have similar finishes and interiors as our two units we opened in February. Hoping to have these wrapped up by end of April.

But now the fun part. And really, the most important part. Since we last touched base we’ve welcomed a bunch of new people into our community. Some moving into our brand new units other moving into vacancies.

Thrilled to add more to our growing community. Each has a story that maybe we’ll dive into in future posts. A giant thank you to Onondaga County for seeing the value in our work and prioritizing affordable housing for those facing homelessness in our community. And a thank you to the Greater Syracuse Landbank and the forward thinking staff for providing us with the sites to make all this possible.

And here is what is on the agenda for the coming months…

Next week we’re hosting the fifth annual ESF Alternative Spring Break Trip. Fourteen ESF students will be spending their spring break with us learning about homelessness in Syracuse, working with our tenants, building tiny homes, and working on some of our lingering projects. Looking forward to getting lots done. It is always a blast.

Big plans for developing this forgotten street on Syracuse’s northside. Over the summer we’ll be working on three brand new tiny homes and the rehab of two one-family home rehabs. Stay tuned…

Thank you for following along. Here’s to charging into Spring!
